Cooking Without Whine: El Puerco Sandwich

Trevor teaches us how we make the El Puerco sandwich served at MHAB Fresh. You'll need the chimichurri sauce we made last time to complete the recipe!

Welcome back to Cooking Without Whine, our series of teaching videos, helping you prepare fresh and healthy meals at home. If you don't already know– our institutional sized kitchen on the MHAB Life Skills Campus is a space for life skills education, experimental cooking, and of course, a lot of fun. In the MHAB Kitchen, we prepare fresh baked goods, soups, sandwiches, and salads daily. Community dinners and private luncheons are regularly prepared here as well. Our head chef, Trevor, leads the way in providing fresh meals to the community and making sure our MHAB Fresh shop is always stocked with delicious, healthy eats.

Down below is episode number eight of Cooking Without Whine, where you can learn from Trevor how to prepare the MHAB Fresh El Puerco Sandwich– all from inside our very own kitchen on MHAB Life Skills Campus. Watch the video to see how Trevor does it, and follow the recipe underneath to make your own at home!

Ready to make the El Puerco at home?

Here's what you'll need:

  • Chimichurri sauce (Instructions)

  • Roast pork loin

  • Tomato

  • Green leaf lettuce

  • Pepper jack cheese

  • Croissant

Let's get started:

  1. Split your croissant in half.

  2. Add a layer of lettuce on the bottom. (This helps to keep the bread firm!)

  3. Add a few spoonfuls of chimichurri on top.

  4. Slice two pieces of pork loin, about an 1/8 in to a 1/4 in thick. Add the pork on top of the chimichurri.

  5. Add two slices of tomato on top.

  6. One slice of pepperjack cheese as the last layer of the sandwich to finish it off.

That’ll do pig... until next time!
